About the event

Everything You Need to Know About Reading Your Child’s IEP

IEPs can feel overwhelming, but this group is designed to break them down into clear, manageable parts. Parents will learn how to read and understand each section of the IEP, including goals, accommodations, and services. We’ll cover how to spot vague language, advocate for necessary supports, and track progress effectively.

Throughout our discussions, we will explore how a child’s identity—neurodivergence, cultural background, personal strengths, and self-perception—shapes their experience with evaluations, IEPs, and services. An IEP should not only address challenges but also reflect a child’s unique way of engaging with the world. Parents will learn how to ensure their child’s strengths, identity, and lived experiences are recognized and valued within the educational system.

We will also examine how assessments and labels impact self-perception and how parents can approach evaluations through a strengths-based, identity-affirming lens. How can we ensure a child’s individuality isn’t lost…
